Tahfiz is an Arabic word which means memorizing the Quran. Tahfiz Medreses are institutions that provide opportunities for young people living in Europe to memorize the Quran in a short period of time. Upon completing their memorization, students are provided with the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the meanings of the Quran and advance in other fields of knowledge.
‘Hafız’ is a noun derived from the Arabic root ‘hıfz,’ which means ‘to protect, to memorize,’ and it translates to ‘the one who protects, who memorizes.’ A Hafız is someone who has memorized and preserved the entire Quran.
It is the sacred and lengthy path of the Word of Allah.
It is the dream of longing, dedication… It is the meeting of the noble Word in hearts, its engraving in minds… It is the surrender of breath, voice and soul by those who accept the greatness of the word spiritually, physically and mentally…

The duration of the education varies depending on the individual’s capacity, ranging from 6 months to 1 or 2 years.
“Parents who teach their child the Quran, will be crowned with a royal crown on Judgement Day, and clothes will be placed upon them that no one has ever seen.” (Kenz al-‘Ummal)
